Slide Lectures

I have several slide lectures on tap for clubs and organizations. You'll find a list of them below. Mainly they're geared to fly rodders, but I do offer one lecture for general audiences. It is called "Photographs from the Vineyard and Beyond" You'll find it at the bottom of this page. This presentation will work well for just about any organization and is good fit for a fishing club banquet. All lectures run about 45 minutes, although I can alter the length somewhat to suit your needs. Note that I ask for an opportunity during the club meeting to sell my books.
Lecture Rates: If a lecture is within 50 miles of my home, I charge $300. If it is between 50 miles and 100 miles in one direction, I charge $380 (plus travel expenses where appropriate). Lectures that require me to travel farther away are priced on an individual basis and typically require that I charge a full day rate. See below.
Event Rates: On occasion I get asked to do events longer than a single lecture. For instance an organization might want me to teach a fly-fishing class in conjunction with a slide lecture or do a fly casting demonstration or a book signing. In these situations I charge by a day rate, (plus travel expenses where necessary). Half Day Rate $400 Full Day Rate $650 (up to 8 hours)
To inquire about, or book a lecture, drop me an e-mail at ed@flyroddingthecoast.com Be sure to put "lecture" in the subject area.

This slide lecture comes out of my latest book. During the talk I focus on how to fly-fish salt ponds, bays and river mouths. It covers tides, wind directions, gear selection, flies, and small crafts such as kayaks and canoes. It also contains a section on sight-fishing for striped bass with some nice photos including a 40" bass caught on a six-weight fly rod..
This is a two part show. In the first section I cover the legendary June striped bass fishing on Martha's Vineyard. All aspects of this fishery are addressed from where-to, when, and how. Tides, fly selection, gear selection, retrieve speeds. Soup to nuts. The second half of the lecture looks at sight-fishing opportunities for striped bass on Cape Cod. It contains slides from both the Atlantic and Bay sides of the Cape. Flats fishing tactics, flies, tides, weather and other aspects of the game. 45 minutes
Atlantic bonito and little tunny (aka the false albacore) are the most exciting quarry for the near shore Atlantic saltwater fly rodders. This presentation is an in-depth look at both shore and boat fishing for these species. Season, gear selection, flies, fly presentation, tactics. I get many requests for this lecture. 45 minutes
This presentation focuses on sight-fishing for striped bass. In the lecture I cover a wide range of topics including : How to read flats; the effect of tides and light; fishing strategies, fly rods, lines and leaders, forage and flies. 45 minutes
This is one of my oldest and most popular lectures. Trying to find fish on a long open beach can be intimidating. In this lecture I explain to anglers how to work a beach effectively and efficiently. I cover what types of bottom structure are most important. How to find them and how to fish them. The lectures addresses both exposed Atlantic beaches as well as shallow protected beaches. This lecture is appropriate not only for fly rodders, but as well for surfcasters using spin or conventional gear. 45 minutes
This presentation is for general audiences, and is ideal for a fishing club banquet. The slides are mainly scenes from Martha's Vineyard and in particular images from Chilmark and Aquinnah at the west end of the island. There are a mix of images from seascapes, landscapes, scenes, underwater pictures, and yes some shots of anglers too. You can see some of these images on my photography page. Naturally this lecture provides an opportunity for people to ask questions about photography, Martha's Vineyard, or saltwater angling. 45 minutes
