What does a six pack of your favorite brew and a four-piece nine-foot fly rod have in common? Read on and I’ll tell you.
A standard aluminum pop-top can is approximately five inches high. Stack six of them on top of one another and you get a thirty-inch tall tower. Don’t ask me how I discovered this next fact, but that thirty-inch tower is roughly the same size as a rod tube for a four-piece nine footer. Bear with me; we’re not done yet.
Several years ago a new rage in portable coolers came on the market. These things were essential a long cylinder of soft foam into which you loaded six frosty cans- one after another. Typically these coolers sported a sling so you could cart your cooler over your shoulder as you marched down the beach. And guess what? These same inexpensive foam coolers make a great protective travel sack for your four-piece nine-foot fly rod. Slide the rod tube inside the foam, zip it up, and away you go. Not sure these thing are still in stores, but you may find one in a basement or at a tag sale.

The End
