Storing Saddles

On overnight fishing trips I often like to take my fly tying gear. But frankly packing tying stuff can be a pain. It hard to keep organized and protected in a suitcase or a duffle bag. And jamming it into a shopping bag is no better.

While wandering through Wally World (aka Wal-Mart) a while back, I came across a translucent plastic container designed  to keep a loaf of bread fresh. Its had a tight lid and was approximately 14 inches deep and 5 inches square.  And was made by the same folks that made my stripping basket-- Rubbermaid!  I immediate saw that it would hold my saddles necks and bucktails, two of the more difficult materials to properly store. So I bought the thing. How much? I forgot; but I think it was just under five bucks.

Well it worked out pretty good. If your saddles are backed with cardboard, you may have to trim the cardboard a bit to fit. And yes, I have one saddle that's so long the top row of hackles gets a little bend. But overall, its a cheap, sturdy storage bin for carting around your prized saddles and bucktails.
